Half the battle of planning an outdoor adventure is thinking about what type of gear you will need. You have all the items ready and arranged in front of you, but do you have the right backpack to place them in? Camping and hiking trips take you through an unforgettable experience that’s filled with excitement, thrill, and a little bit of danger. The one thing that will truly have your back on this trip is your survival gear. When choosing it, you need to pay attention to three areas, which include the backpack, its features, and what you can fit inside.
Your backpack should be able to carry enough survival gear to last the length of your trip. Since you will be packing it with numerous things, you need to make sure that the backpack itself is not heavy. For an extended trip, you will need a backpack that has plenty of pockets and provides you with easy access. Your backpack should have basic items such as water, soup packets, energy bars, torch, matchbox, lighter, tin cup, portable stove, survival tarp, pepper spray, stun gun, first aid kit, and garbage bags. Keep in mind, you don’t necessarily have to go with a big backpack, because you will then probably end up stuffing in more things than what you will need on the trip. Hence, you should create a checklist and write down all the necessary items. Once you have strategically placed all the items on your checklist, you can then decide what to include next depending on how much weight you can carry more.
Your survival gear should be according to the type of trip you are going on. If it’s a 10-day trip then your backpack should be able to carry 10L in volume. For a hiking trip, look for a backpack with mesh side pockets where you can store small items that can be grabbed easily. Last but not least, your backpack needs to be waterproof so that you can safely keep your first aid kit in it, which should be at the top of your survival gear list. You should also carry plenty of other things with you if you are going on a hunting trip, such as a knife and a cross-bow. Don’t forget to include an SOS fire stick because those come quite in handy when lost in the dark.
